What’s the role about?
As an Apprentice Developer, you’ll:
 * Support the design, development, and maintenance of business applications using Microsoft technologies (think C#, .NET, SQL Server, Azure, and more!). 
 * Learn on the job and through a structured Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship. 
 * Work with experienced IT professionals and friendly colleagues across the council. 
 * Help make a real difference to how our services run for the people of Torbay. 
What will you do?
 * Write and test code, help design new features, and support users. 
 * Learn about databases, data security, and how to keep information safe. 
 * Get involved in research, problem-solving, and teamwork. 
 * Attend college one day a week to build your skills and knowledge. 
 * Enjoy a supportive environment with coaching and mentoring. 
What are we looking for?
 * Eagerness to learn and a positive attitude. 
 * Good communication skills – ask questions, share your progress, and listen well. 
 * Team player who collaborates respectfully and reliably. 
 * Attention to detail and good time management. 
 * Basic knowledge of programming (variables, loops, functions), C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL. 
 * Experience working as part of a team (school, college, or voluntary work). 
 * GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, plus a Level 3 qualification in IT or related subject (or equivalent experience). 
 * Willingness to study for a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship. 
Bonus points for:
 * Experience with .NET Core, ASP.NET, Azure, Power Platform, or Agile ways of working. 
 * Personal coding projects or Microsoft certifications.

Skills
Essential:

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
Knowledge
Essential:
 * Basic programming concepts – variables, loops, conditionals, functions. 
 * Introductory C# knowledge – syntax, data types, simple classes. 
 * Basic HTML & CSS – understanding structure and styling of web pages. 
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
 * Educated to GCSE Level (or equivalent) in Maths and English. 
 * Level 3 qualification in IT or related subject, or equivalent experience. 
 * Willingness to study a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.
