Site Manager
Costain Group PLC is seeking a Site Manager to lead the Anglian Water Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) project. The SPA involves the planning, design, and construction of approximately 320 km of new large‑diameter clean water interconnector pipelines and associated infrastructure across the Anglian Water region. The role is site‑based and will involve regular communication with the delivery team in the local office.
The Site Manager will work closely with the Project Delivery Manager (PDM) to manage supervisors, delivery teams, and sub‑contractors on site. Responsibilities include ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with health, safety, quality, environmental and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
* Acts as an ambassador for the SPA Alliance and partner organisations, supporting and implementing all SPA initiatives for safety, environment, quality and well‑being.
* Ensures direct labour and sub‑contractor MS & RA are completed site‑specific and approved by the Construction Manager.
* Completes Alliance development reviews and provides clear, achievable goals to the construction teams reporting to the Site Manager.
* Supports the implementation of initiatives with minimal disruption.
* Maintains liaison with the Client’s Operational staff to meet or exceed Key Performance Parameters.
* Supports the preparation of supplier and/or sub‑contractor estimates and quotations.
* Delivers schemes ranging from £200k up to £20m.
* Contributes to works information with the commercial teams to ensure full scope or identifies areas needing alternative contractor input.
* Promotes new ways of working in construction project delivery, providing measurable evidence in safety, well‑being, quality and environmental areas.
* Complies with CPMS process and BIM procedures, raising issues with design as required.
* Oversees management of site‑based supervisors, delivery teams and supply chain.
* Ensures delivery of projects in line with tender allowances and agreed programmes, actively managing any slippage of programme or costs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Knowledge and experience in the water industry.
* Extensive experience in the M&E/construction industry.
* Completed Working in Confined Space (C&G) course.
* Commercial and contractual understanding and awareness.
* Experience working to a budget and programme.
* Effective management of sub‑contractors.
* Excellent customer relationship skills.
* Ability to influence customer decision‑making.
* Basic management training, skills and experience.
* Good understanding of legislative and corporate SHEQ/industry/legal requirements.
* Basic IT skills including MS programmes.
Essential Qualifications
* Relevant management CSCS card.
* Degree, NVQ Level 6 or HND in Engineering/Site Management.
* CSCS Managers Card.
* Minimum of SMSTS.
* Health, Safety and Environmental Management (IOSH or Construction Managers Safety Certificate).
* Three‑day First Aid at Work course including defibrillator.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* Completed a LOLER course.
* Certified Fire Marshall.
Desirable
* First Aid and MH First Aid (depending on role).
