Are you a talented WordPress developer looking to deliver on public sector projects that make a real difference to young people across Greater Manchester? Are you passionate about building accessible, user-friendly digital services?
As a WordPress Developer, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing WordPress websites to ensure our digital services are engaging, user-friendly, and accessible. You will work on a range of projects, designing and implementing new features and functionalities for our websites, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and security. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, content creators, and other developers, to ensure a cohesive and efficient web presence.
You will customise WordPress themes and plugins, integrate third-party tools and APIs, and troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Strong problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for web development are essential.
Youll be primarily working with our Education, Work and Skills Directorate championing best practices within the projects to build a user-focused digital culture. This role will also likely include opportunities for cross-directorate working, contributing to other projects and teams across GMCA. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating accessible services that are simple enough for everyone to use.
We follow the Government Digital and Data Profession Capability job description model for Web Development. You will be required to gain a good understanding of the Government Digital Service Manual, the GDS Design System, and the UK Government Technology Code of Practice.

Skills

* Experienced WordPress developers, capable of writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP and able to manage WordPress plugins and themes
* Strong problem solvers, able to identify and manage development needs and opportunities for technical improvement
* Good communicators and collaborators, confident in working across teams and with colleagues from other disciplines like design and content
* Passionate about creating accessible services that are simple enough for everyone to use

Interview
If you’re successful at the expression of interest stage, you’ll be invited to an in-person interview at our central Manchester office. This interview will be a mix of standard interview questions as well as technical ones. This may involve a presentation on a technical topic which we’ll ask you to prepare ahead of time.
