Job Summary
Our Future Lifeskills Mentor programme aims to improve each young person’s social skills, behaviour, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and bolster academic achievement. These improvements are achieved by unpicking the young person's schooling and out of school life and looking for key indicators that will give OFT staff a better handle on supporting the young person in achieving the desired outcomes. Rate: £20 per hour.
Roles and Responsibilities
Our Future Lifeskills Mentors will provide a complimentary service addressing the needs of Children and Young People (C&YP) between the ages of 5–25 years who need help to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential.
* Carry out 1:1 or group work including Anger Management, Self Esteem, other mentoring activities which address/involve attendance, punctuality, transition, relationships (Parents and Peers), PHSE, outside agencies.
* Draw up personal action plan for each C&YP.
* Develop a 1:1 mentoring relationship with C&YP who are demonstrating:
o a. Falling motivation or confidence.
o b. Falling punctuality or attendance.
o c. Deteriorating behaviour.
o d. Experiencing difficulties with relationships, Family and Peers.
o e. Significant underachievement – academically.
* Maintain regular contact with families/carers of C&YP in need of extra support, to keep them informed of the C&YP’s needs and progress and to secure positive family support and involvement.
* Ensure the needs of gifted and talented C&YP and those with special educational needs are met.
* Attend to C&YP personal needs and provide advice to assist in their social, finances (day‑day budgeting), nutrition, health and hygiene development.
* Challenge and motivate C&YP, promote and reinforce self‑esteem.
* Provide information and advice to enable C&YP to make choices about their own learning, behaviour and attendance.
* Network with other OFT Mentors and share good practice.
* Attend relevant Mentor training.
* Complete reports for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
* Complete the administrative duties relevant to the role of Mentor.
* Comply with all the requirements of Safeguarding, Child Protection, Health and Safety – taking appropriate action where necessary.

Mentor Education and Training Requirements
* NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification or experience in relevant disciplines
* Appropriate first aid training
* Complete Mentoring for Mentor CPD Training – OFT requirement
* Experience of working with C&YP
