Due to continuing expansion, we are currently recruiting for a Quality Manager to join our team.
Purpose of the Role
The Quality Manager will lead and develop the company's Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring compliance with ISO 9001, EN 1090 (CA1090), and other relevant industry standards. As a senior leader, the postholder will oversee the quality function, manage a dedicated team, and work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and senior management to drive a culture of continuous improvement, product conformity, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Provide strategic leadership of the quality function, ensuring the QMS is robust, effective, and continuously improved.
Manage, mentor, and develop the Quality team to deliver departmental objectives.
Act as the company's lead point of contact for all matters relating to quality standards, audits, and accreditations.
Safety Leadership
Champion Zero culture across all manufacturing areas.
Ensure compliance and adherence to all H&S policies and procedures.
Conduct regular safety briefings, audits, and toolbox talks.
Act swiftly to resolve safety hazards, near misses, or incidents.
Investigate any reported accidents, near misses or hazards and action in a timely manner.
Quality Management System (QMS)
Maintain and develop the QMS in line with ISO 9001 and EN 1090 requirements.
Ensure policies, procedures, and processes are up to date, effective, and aligned with business objectives.
Lead preparation and management of external audits (certification bodies, customers, regulators) and internal audits.
Ensure effective document control and traceability throughout the organisation.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, EN 1090 (CA1090), and any customer or sector-specific requirements.
Oversee welding quality standards, material traceability, CE/UKCA marking, and associated technical documentation.
Keep up to date with regulatory and industry developments, advising senior management on implications and actions required.
Operational Excellence
Monitor and analyse quality performance data (KPIs, NCRs, customer complaints, audit findings).
Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Work closely with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to ensure quality requirements are fully embedded.
Support new product introduction and project activities from a quality perspective.
People & Culture
Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement across the business.
Provide training, guidance, and support to managers and employees to ensure quality standards are understood and applied.
Provide clear direction, motivation and support to your direct reports; managing performance, conduct, attendance and development of the team.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in a senior quality management role, ideally within the structural steel manufacturing sector.
Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and EN 1090 (CA1090).
Demonstrable experience leading external and internal audits.
Experience managing and developing a quality team.
Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
Strong problem-solving ability and root cause analysis skills.
Proficiency in quality management tools, reporting, and data analysis.
Desirable:
Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Quality, or related discipline.
Lead Auditor qualification in ISO 9001.
Experience with welding quality standards and certification requirements.
