Front Office eTrading Developer - Director
Profile Summary
As an eTrading developer the job holder will be primarily working on extending and supporting the electronic trading systems associated with Rates Derivates and Cash (Rates & Credit) desks, through a mixture of individual and team‑based tasks from small enhancements through to large scale implementations.
Team Responsibilities
* Sourcing market data from external vendors e.g. BPipe and ION
* Pricing of vanilla and custom IRS/Cash products (often using in‑house and vendor analytics)
* Contribution publication to B2C venues e.g. Bloomberg and Tradeweb
* Automated handling of client enquiries including auto responses
* Intraday Realtime Risk (IRS)
* Ensuring limits and risk controls are enforced
* Providing valuations to downstream systems
* Maintenance and enhancement of tick data capture
Duties And Responsibilities
Technical Development & Architecture
* Design, develop, and maintain real‑time bond trading systems supporting front office operations
* Implement low‑latency solutions for market data processing and order management
* Develop APIs and integration layers with upstream/downstream systems including Bloomberg, Reuters, and internal platforms
* Ensure system scalability, reliability, and performance to handle high‑volume trading activities
Leadership & Collaboration
* Lead technical initiatives and mentor junior developers in best practices and domain knowledge
* Collaborate directly with traders, quants, and portfolio managers to understand requirements and deliver solutions
* Drive architectural decisions and technology strategy for bond trading platforms
* Coordinate with risk management, compliance, and operations teams to ensure regulatory compliance
* Participate in production support rotation and handle critical trading system issues
Business & Product Development
* Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans
* Stay current with market structure changes, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices
* Contribute to product roadmap and strategic technology initiatives
* Provide technical expertise during client meetings and RFP responses
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field
* 7+ years of software development experience with at least 4 years in capital markets or financial services
* Strong expertise in fixed income products, particularly bonds, treasuries, corporate bonds, and derivatives
* Proven experience working in front office environments, directly supporting trading desks
* Expert-level proficiency in Java, C++, or C# for high-performance system development
* Experience with distributed systems, messaging middleware (Kafka, Solace, TIBCO), and microservices architecture
* Understanding of FIX protocol and experience with order management systems
* Demonstrated leadership experience including mentoring, technical design leadership, or team lead roles
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or quantitative discipline
* Experience with Python for data analysis, automation, and quantitative modeling
* Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
* Familiarity with machine learning applications in trading and risk management
* Experience with electronic trading platforms and algorithmic trading systems
* Understanding of regulatory frameworks
