Offer description

About the team

This role sits within the Digital Services Team in the Information Technology directorate at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The team is responsible for shaping and delivering enterprise-wide digital and data capabilities that support our core purpose: safeguarding the public by regulating nurses, midwives and nursing associates.

You will report to the Enterprise Architect and work closely with colleagues across Data Governance, Business Intelligence, Technology Services and the wider business. The team plays a central role in evolving our Microsoft D365 platform and downstream medallion data architecture, ensuring that data is structured, governed and leveraged effectively across the organisation.

Collaboration is at the heart of how we work — connecting architecture, governance, engineering and business teams to deliver secure, scalable and future-ready data solutions.

Your role and impact

As Data Architect, you will be responsible for shaping and governing the NMC's enterprise data architecture, with a particular focus on new solutions and enhancements to our Microsoft D365 implementation and downstream medallion architecture.

You will:
* Lead Project Data Architecture through structured Data Architecture Assessments (DAA).
* Drive Enterprise Data Architecture and model governance through our Data Architecture Framework (DAF).
* Develop conceptual and logical data models (UML), glossaries, taxonomies and ontologies.
* Map key data flows and establish lineage across the enterprise data model.
* Administer and assure the model repository, ensuring version control and quality standards.
* Extend and enforce modelling standards using Sparx Enterprise Architect, MDG technologies and scripting.
* Analyse business requirements within the context of the wider enterprise architecture landscape and recommend robust, secure and scalable data solutions.
* Produce clear, high-value documentation and diagrams tailored to business stakeholders, SMEs, analysts, governance teams and engineers.
* Develop and maintain the Data Architecture roadmap.
* Act as a champion for the Data Architecture Framework — educating, mentoring and socialising best practice across the organisation.

Your work will directly influence how data is structured, protected and used across the NMC, strengthening our ability to make informed decisions and protect the public.

What you'll bring

Technical expertise
* Strong knowledge of DAMA DMBoK principles.
* Advanced UML conceptual and logical data modelling expertise.
* Deep understanding of transactional, Kimball and OBT methodologies, and when to apply each appropriately.
* Hands-on experience with Sparx Enterprise Architect and MDG technologies.
* A degree or postgraduate qualification in IT, computer science, engineering or equivalent experience.
* The ability to solve complex IT and data architecture challenges.
* Confidence in translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical stakeholders.

Experience

Proven experience operating in a data architecture role.
Demonstrable experience translating business and technical requirements into practical, robust data architecture solutions.
Experience designing transitional architectures and embedding security considerations across architectural domains.

If you are passionate about enterprise data architecture, governance and delivering secure, high-impact data solutions in a purpose-driven organisation, we would love to hear from you.
