Overview

About The Role. Balfour Beatty is a global leader in infrastructure with a proud history of delivering essential services and shaping the future. We are looking for an experienced OHL Site Manager to join our Power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) team and support delivery of National Grid projects across the UK. This role focuses on leading the on-site delivery of critical power infrastructure projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient construction works from planning to handover.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead and manage on-site construction activities for OHL projects.
* Support Project Managers/Directors in delivering work to scope, time, cost, and quality targets.
* Ensure site resource management is efficient, effective, and compliant.
* Champion a culture of safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
* Produce and maintain accurate site records and progress documentation.
* Inspire, lead, and care for the teams delivering the work on-site.
* Monitor and review delivery to ensure regulatory and contractual compliance.
* Drive innovation, leadership, and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.
* Help define and achieve customer objectives by balancing time, cost, scope, risk, and quality.


What you’ll be doing

* Attend periodic project reviews (PRM) and update project records in line with internal standards.
* Maintain accurate project records (progress, daily diaries, etc.).
* Prepare internal and external reports and liaise with stakeholders.
* Apply scope, information, and configuration management principles.
* Ensure reports provide relevant information to enable informed, cost-effective decisions.
* Ensure scope and package assignment supports coordinated team working.
* Implement technical information and drawings into delivery; understand plant and equipment requirements.
* Apply numerical skills as needed and ensure a focus on Zero Harm and legislative changes.
* Support safety and welfare of public, employees and supply chain; conduct safety tours and promote safety initiatives.
* Support Accident/Incident Investigations; monitor H&S Management System and drive improvements.
* Maintain welfare requirements; write RAMS and accept subcontractor RAMS.
* Identify, raise and report risks and hazards; ensure workforce sufficiency and competence.
* Reinforce golden rules; manage safety documentation; promote behavioural safety.
* Develop and update resource allocation plans (OBS) and raise appropriate requests; assign people to work and plan delivery to programme.
* Check competencies; escalate and manage on-site issues; empower stop-work decisions when needed.
* Drive productivity; assist the Project Manager with risk/opportunity reviews and risk register updates.
* Manage subcontractors, monitor attendance and progress, and ensure contractual arrangements are achieved.
* Support procurement plans to meet project schedules; ensure expenditure aligns with budget and resources are used efficiently.
* Identify cost recovery opportunities and balance operational and commercial constraints in decision making.
* Analyse, appraise and implement change efficiencies; notify commercial changes as required.
* Plan and coordinate plant and materials requirements and ensure timely delivery.

The Following Qualities/Experience Are Essential

* Experience in implementing safe systems of work and managing risks and change processes.
* Good understanding of standard forms of contracts; proficient in commercial/project management communications.
* Effective verbal and written communication with all levels of the organisation; strong interpersonal and negotiating skills.
* Ability to work under pressure with a flexible attitude; solutions-based problem solving.
* Ability to communicate daily briefings and maintain two-way communications (e.g., weekly safety pack).
* Ability to discuss ideas clearly and communicate new concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* Aware of diversity and inclusion benefits; committed to personal development.
* Identify and drive personal development.


The Following Qualities/Experience Are Desirable

* Experience on a variety of project types; proficiency with O365.
* Holds a current driving license; CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent.
