Why this job matters
The Data Engineering Principal leads the design, build, and implementation of processes to capture, manage, store, and utilize structured and unstructured data from various sources. This role involves hands-on development and technical leadership to ensure high-quality, scalable data infrastructure.
Your responsibilities include:
1. Lead End-to-End Data Lifecycle: Manage the complete data lifecycle to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and actionability.
2. Architect Scalable Data Solutions: Design enterprise-grade data pipelines using AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, EMR, Kinesis).
3. Set Technical Direction: Guide decisions on data conceptualization, modeling, and visualization.
4. Champion Data Governance and Access: Promote secure, compliant, and transparent data practices.
5. Communicate with Impact: Simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
6. Act as a Subject Matter Expert: Resolve complex issues and foster technical excellence.
7. Drive Standards and Best Practices: Implement architectural guidelines and frameworks.
8. Monitor and Optimize Services: Define metrics and collaborate with stakeholders to meet performance standards.
9. Innovate and Evolve Architecture: Develop innovative data services aligned with business needs.
10. Mentor and Develop Talent: Coach team members to build capabilities.
11. Lead Continuous Improvement: Enhance processes for better efficiency and quality.
12. Cloud Governance: Use tools like IAM, resource tagging, and cost management to enforce AWS governance policies and implement monitoring and alerting solutions.
Experience required:
* Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field; master’s preferred.
* AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional) is highly valued.
* Strong knowledge of cloud concepts, architecture patterns, and best practices.
* Proven experience designing, implementing, and maintaining AWS solutions.
* Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
* Extensive background in software architecture, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud architectures.
* Advanced proficiency in Python and Apache Spark, focusing on ETL and scalable data workflows.
* Deep technical knowledge of AWS data services and experience with data pipelines (e.g., EMR, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, Athena).
* Proven ability to design and deliver Lakehouse architectures for unified analytics.
Skills:
* 3+ years designing complex data pipelines on AWS and knowledge of core AWS services.
* Experience in system design, including distributed systems and reliable, robust systems using AWS.
* Experience with streaming and Lakehouse architectures and real-time analytics optimization.
* Ability to own diverse system designs and adapt quickly to new challenges.
