English Learning Mentor - Secondary School - Leeds
Start date: After February half term

Aspire People are partnering with a friendly and high-performing secondary school in Leeds that is looking to appoint an English Learning Mentor on a full-time, long-term basis from after the February half term. This role is ideal for graduates who want meaningful, hands-on experience helping students develop confidence and progress in English.
The Role: English Learning Mentor
As an English Learning Mentor, you'll work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing tailored academic and pastoral support to help them succeed in English. Your role will include:
* Mentoring students during English lessons, focusing on literacy, comprehension, and written expression
* Delivering targeted 1:1 and small-group intervention sessions, particularly for GCSE English
* Supporting pupils who lack confidence or need extra encouragement to engage with learning
* Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, classroom activities, and behaviour support
* Offering additional help with homework, coursework, and exam revision
* Working with students who have SEN or additional learning needs
* Promoting positive attitudes, motivation, and progress across the English curriculum
* Occasionally supervising classes when required (full guidance and training provided)
English Learning Mentor - What We're Looking For
* A 2:1 or above degree in English or a related subject
* A genuine interest in education and mentoring young people
* Experience supporting or tutoring KS3/KS4 students is desirable
* Strong communication skills and a high level of written English
* A calm, patient, and encouraging approach
* Any experience working with young people is beneficial but not essential
* An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply
