Job Description
Reed Education are recruiting a Head Cook to join one of our Primary Schools in the Huddersfield area from September 2025- June 2026. This is a full-time temporary role covering a period of maternity.
Job responsibilities will be varied but include,
* To manage the delivery of an effective, high quality catering service for the school.
* To develop the catering provision within school delivering meals in accordance with food standards and provide a strategic direction that will increase the uptake of school meals.
* To organise and manage the kitchen assistants to provide the above service.
* To develop and deliver a balanced and nutritious menu that includes seasonal variations.
* To cater for special dietary needs.
* To adhere to and maintain all relevant Food Hygiene and Health and Safety legislation as required by law within the catering industry.
* To ensure the kitchen and dining room premises, furniture and equipment is maintained in line with health and safety law and maintain records as required for the School Business Manager.
* To undertake the risk assessment for the kitchen and risk assessments for the safe use of kitchen equipment.
* To ensure that all equipment is in full working order and meets all health and safety requirements and requesting repairs to items when required.
We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications and experience,
* Level 2 Food Hygiene- essential
* NVQ L2 in Catering, GCSE’s in Maths and English, First Aid at Work/Pediatric First Aid- desirable
* At least 2 years' experience of working in a large kitchen environment, knowledge of food hygiene and food handling, experience of leading and managing a team- essential
