Location: Civic Offices and Green Spaces, including but not limited to High Woods Country Park and Castle Park.
An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, including a Children's Barred List Check, is required for this position.

Role Overview
The Council seeks a highly motivated Assistant Parks and Countryside Ranger to assist the Ranger Team. The role involves delivering practical, ecological, recreational, safety, and business-related works to ensure the high-quality management of the Council’s green spaces, including High Woods Country Park, Castle Park, local nature reserves, historic sites like Gosbecks Archaeological Park, and Sites of Special Scientific Interest such as Ferry Marsh in Wivenhoe.
Responsibilities
1. Assist with day-to-day practical site management and maintenance.
2. Conduct site patrols and basic environmental and ecological surveys.
3. Perform safety inspections to ensure safe and well-managed sites.
4. Maintain tools and equipment.
5. Support community engagement and volunteer programs.
6. Assist with the preparation of consents for works on protected sites and procurement of materials.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
* English and Maths GCSE grade 4 or equivalent.
* Full clean driving licence.
* Experience in conservation, ecology, estate management, or countryside recreation/interpretation (via employment, volunteering, or academic work).
* Trailer Towing experience (minimum BE on Licence).
* First Aid at Work qualification.
Desirable:
* Certificates in brushcutter/strimmer operation, pesticide use, woodchipper operation.
* OFQUAL-recognized chainsaw certification (Level 2 felling up to 380mm).
* Lantra - Basic Tree Hazard Identification or equivalent.
* Knowledge of countryside management or conservation issues.
