Are you an experienced cook with a dedication to always serving the tastiest meals? Do you want to make even more of a difference with all the flavours you can bring to the table? (pun intended)

The exceptional team at Acorn House is currently looking for an imaginative and creative Cook to join their team. With the 64-bed home being purpose-built with its residents in mind, you will find a homely yet glorious environment.

Providing residential and specialist dementia care to their residents, your primary focus will be to blow their tastebuds by preparing meals that are delicious, comforting and prepared fabulously.

What you will receive as a Cook;

* £12.67 per hour
* Part-time, permanent contract
* 28.88 hours per week on a 6-weekly rolling rota
* 8-hour shifts, 7am-4pm, 3 on, 3 off
* Based in Nottingham, NG5 2AT

What you will be doing as a Cook;

* Plan, prepare and cook a variety of meals that are appealing, nutritious and individual to the resident's likes and dislikes
* Assist in the planning of menus and ordering of food within set budget parameters
* Prepare home-baked goods for tea and celebrations
* Be aware at all times, of the Residents' dietary needs and preferences
* Ensure food is prepared and stored following guidelines from the Environmental Health Department
* Maintaining food stocks and reordering where needed
* Actively engage with residents in conversation and meaningful activities related to their lifestyle choices
* Participate in the cleaning program of the kitchen to ensure that all appliances and the kitchen environment are kept hygienic and clean

What you will need to be successful as a Cook;

* Previous experience in catering for a minimum of 25 covers
* Hold a current Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
* COSHH training and understanding of HACCP
* Ability to plan and prepare creature comforts, as well as bring new and tasty ideas to the menu
* Have caring, calm and compassionate nature, with the ability to communicate with others on various levels

Acorn House are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate Cook to work as part of our catering team in a busy kitchen.

As a Cook, you will work in support of our Catering team, supporting and at times leading (in the absence of the Head Chef) a comprehensive, high-quality culinary service, which contributes to the overall well-being of our residents.

Our aim is to offer a variety of food which is nutritious seasonal, thoughtful and nourishing. Good quality food with inspirational cuisine can be both a treat and healthy, so no residents will have to feel guilty or left out when enjoying our food offering.

If you have experience in the hotel or catering industry, coupled with a passion for quality home cooked cuisine then you may just be who we are looking for.

Key Responsibilities

* To prepare and cook a variety of meals which are appealing, nutritious and centres around residents' preferences, requests or any special dietary requirements.
* To be active and encouraging, provide advice and guidance for the team ensuring that The Care Home is a friendly, supportive working environment.
* To understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health and Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, ensuring a safe environment within the home.
* Implement, monitor and maintain cleaning schedules that meet the requirements of the HACCP Manual, and ensure that all areas of the kitchen are immaculately clean. This will include the washing up of pots, pans and dishes when required.
* Ensure that stock rotation is taking place to maintain optimum freshness of all food stuff ensuring the highest quality expected within The Care Home.
* Responsible for all kitchen equipment ensuring it is in full, safe working order, reporting any damage or faults to Chef Manager and following up any appropriate action.
* To be understanding towards residents and their needs and attend resident/relative meetings.

Person specification

* Experienced Cook
* Previous experience of catering for a minimum of 25 covers (dependent on size of home)
* Good numeric and literacy skills.
* NVQ Level 2 in Catering
* Basic food hygiene certificate
* COSHH Training and understanding of HACCP
