Job Purpose:
To provide nutritious, well-prepared meals for residents in accordance with their dietary requirements and preferences. To support the kitchen in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment, ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety are upheld at all times.
Key Responsibilities:Cooking Duties:
* Prepare and cook meals and snacks in accordance with the planned menu and residents' dietary needs.
* Ensure all meals are prepared to a high standard of taste and presentation.
* Adapt menus to cater for individual dietary requirements (e.g. diabetic, low salt, vegetarian, pureed).
* Manage portion control to reduce food waste and maintain cost effectiveness.
Kitchen Assistant Duties:
* Assist with general kitchen duties including food preparation, washing up, and cleaning.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, appliances, and food preparation areas.
* Help with receiving and storing food deliveries, checking for quality and compliance with food safety standards.
* Assist in stock rotation and reporting low stock levels.
Health & Safety / Compliance:
* Follow all food hygiene and health & safety regulations as outlined by the Food Standards Agency and Care Quality Commission (CQC).
* Maintain accurate kitchen records including food temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and stock logs.
* Report any concerns regarding food safety, equipment, or kitchen hygiene to the manager.
Personal Attributes & Requirements:
* Previous experience in a similar catering or care setting preferred.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) required; Level 3 desirable.
* Understanding of dietary needs for the elderly, including special diets.
* Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Compassionate and respectful attitude towards residents and staff.
