About the Role
SLC has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Developer to join our CMS OPX platform team on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the technical resolution of complex incidents and problems affecting our content platforms and the surrounding operational excellence (OPX) tooling. This includes ensuring high availability and smooth deployments across environments.
You'll collaborate closely with colleagues across Product, Engineering, Operations, and InfoSec to maintain and enhance the stability, security, and functionality of our critical web properties.
This role combines technical expertise in troubleshooting and automation with a focus on clear communication and continuous improvement. The role holder will contribute to the resilience and reliability of our digital infrastructure, helping to ensure consistent service delivery and ongoing platform optimisation.
Person specification
What You Bring:
* Proven experience with the CMS OPX platform and its operational tooling
* Expertise in L3 troubleshooting across web and CMS stacks, including application, API, database, operating system, network, and CDN layers
* Solid understanding of database fundamentals such as SQL performance, connectivity, and connection pooling, along with experience in queueing and event-driven systems
* Practical knowledge of observability tools and techniques — including logs, metrics, traces, distributed tracing, and alert design
* Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change) and how they align with agile and SRE methodologies
* Composed and methodical approach to incident management, with the ability to lead calls and make informed decisions
* Practical experience supporting the CMS OPX platform and related applications
* A proven ability to reduce Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR) and drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) toward effective preventive solutions
* Hands-on expertise with CI/CD pipelines and proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
