Job Description

This role holder supports the Group Smiths Excellence Training Team. The role involves the design and development of digital media assets and contents for our online training solutions and communications, provided to customers both internal and commercial. The role holder will be proficient in designing and developing digital media assets including eLearning, video, 3D modelling, animation and gamification of learning.

The role holder will directly support and advise the Senior Manager for Training & Documentation. This role will be key in delivering on the Learning & Development requirements of our worldwide target audiences across a variety of market sectors, ensuring content is aligned with the Smiths Group’s global standards and policies. The holder will design UI and UX for learning platforms, classroom delivery and digital learning contents, shaping the look and feel of Smiths Excellence’s digital learning solutions. The role will also support the innovative design of Smiths Excellence classroom training packages – designing graphics and multimedia to support this content where required.

This is a full‑time, permanent role. Based out of our Birmingham office 4 days per week.


Responsibilities

* Creation of innovative, immersive multi‑media solutions for digital training in multiple sectors and cultures with differing requirements.
* Design and delivery of eLearning material to support the global organisation.
* Design of multi‑media content from concept to delivery based on common design principles and procedures.
* Creation of UI (User Interface) design – look and layout, buttons, menus, colours, fonts, in line with Smiths branding guidelines for the learning platform or content.
* Creation of UX (User Experience) design – overall experience, ensuring that training is intuitive, accessible, and satisfying to use, supporting learning goals.
* Work on projects that include film creation and editing as well as 3D modelling and animation.
* Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and After Effects.
* Use of 2D/3D packages such as Blender.
* Use of eLearning development tools such as Articulate.
* Preferred – develop using gaming engines such as Unity for gamification of learning.
* Deliver multiple projects on time, within budget, and with 100% accurate learner’s journey.
* Collaborate with global stakeholders and subject matter experts internally to support the delivery of the Smiths Excellence Training Strategy.
* Delivery of multiple complex programmes.
* Provide advice on opportunities and risks related to multi‑media development.
* Apply common design principles.
* Support continuous improvement of digital training policy and adhere to existing digital training development guidelines.
* Establish and maintain relationships with Marketing, Creative Media, Divisional HR, Product Specialists to support business needs.
* Support the establishment of digital training performance and quality metrics.
* Provide expert consultancy in creation and implementation of multi‑media content, UI and UX design.
* Create all media assets, including video, voice‑overs, scripts, 3D models, games, event graphics and other assets.
* Ensure animated assets are engaging.
* Build interactive eLearning in Storyline Articulate.
* Create poster assets, branded items and other media assets using graphic design skills.
* Maintain training material and media assets, updating them in line with feedback and emerging technology.
* Develop storyboards, lesson plans and digital assessments aligned with learning objectives.
* Work with SMEs, trainers and project managers to gather requirements and validate content.
* Ensure accessibility and positive learner experience in all training modules.


Technical Knowledge and Skills

* Degree in a related subject is preferable; significant professional experience as a Multimedia or UI/UX Designer is acceptable.
* Skilled in designing graphics, multimedia and eLearning content across a range of subjects.
* Strong communication and trouble‑shooting skills; respond in a timely manner to global staff from different time zones.
* Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal stakeholders and customers.
* Highly proficient in MS Office applications.
* Ability to handle stressful situations and adapt to changing priorities.
* Experience working on projects that include video creation and editing, 3D modelling, animation and gamification.
* Extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator and After Effects.
* Desirable skills in Unity and Blender; use of common eLearning development tools such as Articulate is also desirable.
* Ability to design and deliver engaging storyboards targeting multimedia assets and eLearning.
