The Role
We’re looking for a confident, hands‑on HR Manager who is comfortable working in an SME with a large operational and field‑based workforce. You’ll be the senior HR lead in the business, reporting to the Managing Director, and act as a trusted partner to managers across our six UK sites.
This is a role for someone who enjoys variety, isn’t afraid of getting stuck into day‑to‑day issues, and can also see the bigger picture as we continue to grow. You’ll provide practical, commercially‑focused HR support, improve people processes, and help managers to support their teams. You will also line‑manage our HR & Talent Specialist, who looks after recruitment, onboarding and HR administration. As we scale to our next growth phase, there is genuine scope for this role to develop into a Head of HR position.
Key Responsibilities
Operational HR
* Act as the first point of contact for managers, offering clear, confident and practical HR advice.
* Lead on employee relations matters including conduct, attendance, grievance and performance.
* Build manager confidence by supporting early, constructive people conversations.
* Oversee the full employee lifecycle and ensure processes, documents and systems are accurate, compliant and consistent across sites.
Workforce & Recruitment
* Oversee recruitment handled by the HR & Talent Specialist and support senior or hard‑to‑fill roles where needed.
* Support workforce planning in areas where skill sets are in high demand.
* Improve consistency of induction and probation reviews across locations.
People & Culture
* Keep policies up to date, simple and aligned to legislation and Group initiatives.
* Support engagement and wellbeing work, including follow‑up actions from employee feedback.
* Build strong visibility across sites and positive working relationships with teams at all levels.
HR Operations & Data
* Provide monthly payroll inputs to Finance (starters, leavers, changes, absence).
* Use HR data to identify trends and produce clear, useful reports for management.
* Manage relationships with external providers (Citation/Atlas, Westfield, Now Pensions, Fleet).
* Drive continuous improvement across processes, systems and ways of working.
Skills & Experience
* Strong HR generalist experience gained in an SME, ideally within engineering, industrial, construction or field‑based services.
* Confident leading ER cases and supporting managers in operational environments.
* Good working knowledge of UK employment law and upcoming people‑related legal changes.
* Experience of Atlas/Citation would be an advantage.
* Able to work independently, stay organised and manage competing priorities.
* Comfortable analysing HR data and using it to support decision‑making.
* A natural relationship‑builder who is professional, approachable and solutions‑focused.

* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to our UK sites.

* Generous Salary £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
