Salary range: £36,809.02 per annum

Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week)

About us

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) currently manages four prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our secure environments is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release.

At Oakhill Secure Training Centre we look after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The vulnerable young people in our care can be challenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills and address the behaviours that have led them into custody.

Oakhill Secure Training Centre works closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.

About the Role

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Officer to join our onsite HR Team at Oakhill Secure Training Centre. Being a generalist HR Officer with experience of dealing with first level Employee Relations Cases you will provide professional advice, guidance and support to operational and line management to meet the needs of the business in line with legislation and best practice.

Key Responsibilities of this role are:

* Provide professional HR support and accurate and appropriate advice, including advice on diversity, absence, grievance and disciplinary, to line management to minimise risk of litigation in accordance with current legislation.
* Lead on absence management process with guidance and support from the HR Manager. Produce daily absence reports and liaise with managers to ensure effective management of absence, assisting in home visits, welfare meetings, return to works and provision of occupational health reports where required.
* Lead on first line sickness disciplinaries and other first line level disciplinaries, investigations, grievances and other ER Case as appropriate.
* Co-ordinate exit interviews and ensure all leaver documentation is produced in a timely manner and forwarded to payroll for processing.
* Assist Management in responding to flexible working applications to ensure compliance with legislation and consistency within the establishment
* Coach, support and motivate the HR administration staff in order to develop and enhance individual and team performance and to optimise service delivery.
* Support with the planning, recruitment and selection of front line, administrative staff and junior management to meet the business unit requirements.
* Assist in the updating and implementation of policies and procedures to meet business requirements.
* Provide accurate data and produce management information relating to employees, in order to inform line management of trends and statistics, in accordance with company requirements.
* Support the HR Manager and People BP with ad-hoc projects as required.
* Check and validate the accuracy of make up to gross pay ensuring that Terms and Conditions, pay rules and deadlines are met.
* Provide support and advice to line managers to contribute to partnership working with Trade Unions and staff representative groups and to optimise people related matters and the engagement of employees.
* Participate in the Security Screening process, supplying and clarifying information and advising as necessary to ensure that the security screening process complies with both Youth Custody Service and Company standards.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will have experience of working within a HR environment and be able to demonstrate the ability to work to tight deadlines, have the ability to prioritise workload and challenge where necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as working proactively and using your own initiative.

It is key that you are flexible and adaptable to deal with ever-changing scenarios. You will possess strong organisational and communication skills, have experience of working within a fast paced environment in a similar role and will be dedicated to providing a high quality service to both internal and external customers.
