Curious Learners Childcare are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic Nursery Cook and Housekeeper to ensure the highest standards of food safety, nutrition, and cleanliness for our children aged 0–5 years. The role combines meal planning and cooking with general housekeeping duties to maintain a safe, welcoming, and hygienic environment
Duties
Catering and nutrition
* Plan, prepare and cook meals and snacks for children, in line with the nursery menu and dietary requirements.
* Ensure meals comply with relevant dietary needs, including allergies, intolerances, cultural/religious requirements, and age-appropriate portions.
* Maintain accurate records for food storage, stock levels, portion sizes, and food temperature checks; implement HACCP principles and safe food handling practices.
* Manage kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitation of all food preparation and dining areas; monitor cleaning schedules and ensure equipment is well-maintained.
* Label, date, and rotate stock; order and receive supplies as required; control costs and minimise waste.
Housekeeping and environment
* Clean and sanitise classrooms, play areas, toilets, and common touchpoints; sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and waste management.
* Launder and manage nursery textiles and linens; ensure storage areas are tidy and well stocked.
* Replenish supplies (toilet rolls, soap, cleaning products, kitchen essentials) and maintain inventories.
* Support the creation of a child-friendly, safe, and hygienic environment; report maintenance or safety issues promptly.
Safeguarding, health and safety
* Contribute to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; comply with the nursery's safeguarding policy and report concerns following the correct procedures.
* Adhere to Health and Safety regulations, COSHH, and infection control protocols; ensure risk assessments are followed.
* Maintain confidentiality and handle information in line with data protection requirements.
Experience
* Previous experience is preferred but not mandatory.
* Strong culinary skills with experience in food preparation, cooking, and meal planning are highly desirable.
* Familiarity with food safety practices is essential to ensure compliance with health regulations.
* Experience in a restaurant or catering environment would be advantageous.
