Are you passionate about supporting young people who face significant challenges in education? We are looking for a committed and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist secondary alternative provision in Darwen.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who present with complex and challenging behaviours, helping them to re-engage with learning and build positive relationships within a supportive, structured environment.
About the Role:
As a Learning Mentor, you will support students who may struggle to access mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or social barriers. You will work both one-to-one and in small groups to build trust, develop self-esteem, and support personal and academic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
* Build strong, consistent relationships with students to promote positive behaviour and engagement
* Support students with emotional regulation, behavioural strategies, and conflict resolution
* Work closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to deliver tailored interventions
* Assist in developing behaviour and support plans based on individual needs
* Create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and understood
* Monitor student progress and maintain clear, confidential records
* Encourage a sense of achievement, responsibility, and self-worth in each student
About You:
* Experience working with children or young people with additional or behavioural needs
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* The ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in a challenging environment
* A resilient and empathetic approach to behaviour management
* A background in youth work, mentoring, education, or similar settings is desirable
* A genuine passion for helping young people succeed
