The Role
The Head of Estates and Countryside Management is a key position responsible for leading and developing BBNPA as a centre of excellence in estate land management, overseeing capital works programmes and landscape initiatives across Y Bannau for nature and recreation. The role involves planning and delivering programmes of work, site warden management, and overseeing depot and site operations to ensure efficient delivery of services supporting sustainable visitor management, inclusive access, community and landowner engagement, and conservation projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Providing leadership and coordination of activities, including procurement, design, delivery, and project management
* Developing partnerships and supporting funding bids and grant applications
* Engaging with local communities and supporting wardens as local contacts, fostering networks and collaborations
* Guiding policy development, including creating and managing land asset management systems
* Planning and supervising capital works to maintain site safety and integrity, including contracts and permits
* Collaborating with the rural surveyor and commercial management to develop management plans supporting nature, income, and educational opportunities
Skills and Qualifications
* Extensive experience in access rights of way, park management, capital projects, and land conservation
* Understanding of land use sectors such as forestry and agriculture, and their role in nature recovery
* Knowledge of social, environmental, and climate issues
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant field
* Membership of a professional body or evidence of CPD
* Experience in countryside management, legislation, health & safety, and visitor safety
* Proven track record in delivering high-quality projects and managing teams
* Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and partnership-building skills
