Do you have experience delivering events or live programmes? Would you like to create inspiring, inclusive experiences that bring science and media to life for a wide range of audiences? About us The Science Museum Group (SMG) encompasses the Science Museum, the National Railway Museum, the Science & Industry Museum, the National Science & Media Museum, Locomotion and the Science and Innovation Park, making us the world's greatest alliance of science museums. At SMG, our mission is to Inspire Futures. We think big, reveal wonder, share authentic stories, ignite curiosity, and take pride in being open for all. At the National Science and Media Museum, our Public Programme delivers a dynamic programme of live events alongside our temporary exhibitions - engaging audiences through festivals, talks, screenings, workshops and community-led activity. To support this work, we're now recruiting a Public Programme Developer to join us on a fixed-term contract (maternity cover) until August 2027. This is a full-time role (35 hours per week), based at the National Science and Media Museum, with hybrid working available. About the role This is a hands-on role focused on developing and delivering live public programmes that support our temporary exhibitions. You'll create and manage a varied programme of events - from festivals and half-term activities to talks, screenings, workshops and community events, all of which will be designed to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences. You'll take ideas from early concept through to delivery, working with colleagues and external partners to shape creative, high-quality experiences. This will include writing briefs, commissioning and coordinating freelancers and creatives, managing logistics, and ensuring events are delivered safely, accessibly and within budget. Collaboration is central to this role. You'll work with teams across the museum as well as external partners and community organisations, helping to ensure that our programmes are equitable, relevant and reflective of the audiences we serve. You'll actively involve audiences in shaping activity and advocate for their needs throughout the development process. You'll also evaluate your work, using insight and feedback to improve future programmes and contribute ideas for upcoming exhibitions and events. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys both the creative and practical sides of events - developing ideas and making them happen. About you We're looking for someone who brings creativity, organisation and a collaborative mindset. You might come from a museum, arts, education, events or community background-or another setting where you've developed and delivered engaging live experiences. You'll have experience of planning and delivering events or programmes and be comfortable managing multiple projects at once. We'd also value: Experience delivering live events or activities for different audiences Confidence coordinating logistics and working with partners or contributors Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach A proactive attitude and willingness to find solutions An interest in equitable practice and engaging diverse audiences is important. We're particularly keen to hear from people who can bring different perspectives, experiences and ideas to the role. If you enjoy creating engaging events, working with others, and making experiences accessible and meaningful for a wide range of people, we'd love to hear from you. Not sure you meet all the criteria? At SMG, we are committed to building a workforce that is open for all and welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't fit perfectly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this or other opportunities.
