Position Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that all food products are manufactured in compliance with food safety regulations, company standards, and customer specifications. This role drives continuous improvement in product quality and safety, and ensures compliance with regulatory and certification requirements such as HACCP, GMP, and BRCGS or ISO/FSSC 22000.
Job Purpose
Full responsibility for ensuring that all products meet Customer and legal requirements, particularly for food safety.
Working with factory team to drive continuous improvement.
The Quality Manager must be able to react quickly to changing circumstances and make decisions based on fact.
They should be independent of outside influence and not to be swayed by external factors. This is a hands on role requiring high organizational skills and the ability to operate at a high level of autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Food Safety Management
· Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Quality Management System (QMS) in line with HACCP, GMP, ISO/FSSC 22000, BRCGS standards.
· Lead food safety programs, including hazard analysis, CCP monitoring, allergen control, and traceability.
· Conduct and oversee internal audits, supplier audits, and coordinate third-party and regulatory inspections.
· Ensure proper management of non-conformances, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and root cause analyses.
· Control of non-conforming ingredients / product, products under hold, reject and returns and speed of action and problem solving
* Participation in the internal, independent auditing team as required.
* Support management of serious incidents and corrective actions / preventative measures.
* Compile Product / process / environmental reports to meet Customer and legislative requirements and progress against internal KPIs
Quality Assurance
· Monitor daily Quality related activities, including raw material, in-process, and finished product testing.
· Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment.
· Review analytical data and microbiological results to approve or reject product batches.
· Manage environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and product release processes.
Site Hygiene and Housekeeping Maintenance
· Liase with Site Hygiene Manager to ensure all factory cleaning, housekeeping and hygiene standards are maintained.
· Audit the factory floor for compliance, analyse Audit Reports and development of action strategies as a result of repeated / trending of non-conformances.
* Contribution to cleaning specification development.
Team Leadership
· Lead, train, and develop Operations personnel to maintain high competency levels.
· Foster a culture of food safety awareness and continuous improvement across all departments.
· Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and R&D teams to ensure quality objectives are met.
Regulatory & Customer Compliance
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international food safety regulations.
· Prepare documentation for regulatory submissions and customer audits.
· Manage customer complaints, investigations, and ensure timely resolution and communication.
Continuous Improvement
· Use data-driven insights (KPI trends, complaint analysis, audit results) to identify areas for improvement.
* Design, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of HACCP based Quality
· Implement projects focused on waste reduction and quality enhancement.
· Drive initiatives that reduce rework, improve yield, and enhance product consistency.
Health & Safety Requirements
* To be responsible for driving Health and Safety in your area of responsibility including (not exhaustive) compliance, reporting, investigation, improvement, training etc
* Work in a safe manner and observe the Company Health and Safety Rules and Procedures.
* Cooperate with Managers and other personnel of the Company to achieve a healthy and safe workplace environment
* To comply with safe systems of work at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
· 3rd Level Qualification (or higher) in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
Experience:
· Minimum 3 years of experience in FMCG food manufacturing quality management.
· Proven experience managing HACCP, GMP, FSSC 22000 / ISO 22000, or BRCGS systems.
· Experience leading audits, cross-functional teams, and continuous improvement projects.
· Customer facing experience with major retailers, including hosting site audits.
Skills & Competencies:
· Strong knowledge of food safety legislation, HACCP principles, and quality assurance systems.
· Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and team development skills.
· Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ERP/QMS systems, and data analysis tools.
