We're delighted to be supporting an established regional social care provider in the appointment of a Head of People. This is a key senior leadership role within a growing, values-led organisation committed to high-quality care and strong employee engagement.
Reporting to the Director and working closely with the wider executive team, the Head of People will lead the HR function from Head Office, managing a skilled team and partnering across Operations, Finance and other departments. This role requires a visible, hands-on leader who can balance strategic direction with operational delivery within a family-run environment.
Responsibilities:
Lead and deliver the People Strategy, providing workforce insight to the senior leadership team and overseeing the HR function.
Oversee talent management including recruitment, succession planning and retention, reducing vacancies and agency reliance.
Drive engagement, wellbeing and leadership development, embedding organisational values across the group.
Lead learning and development, ensuring effective induction, training platforms and career progression pathways.
Ensure compliance with employment law, CQC and Home Office regulations, managing complex employee relations matters.
Oversee HR operations including sponsorship compliance, payroll liaison, pay reviews, workforce reporting and budget management.Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a qualified HR professional (CIPD Level 5 minimum, Level 7 preferred) with strong generalist expertise and experience managing HR within a multi-site operational environment.
Experience within social care is desirable; however, candidates from aligned sectors will be considered where they demonstrate adaptability and the ability to quickly grasp regulatory requirements.
Strong knowledge of UK employment law and best practice HR frameworks.
Experience handling complex employee relations cases independently.
Exposure to sponsorship and Home Office compliance (or willingness to quickly develop expertise).
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Salary:
£75,000 - £80,000pa negotiable DOSE
25 days annual leave + bank holidays
This role requires consistent presence at Head Office with regular visits to care homes. Candidates should be based within reasonable commuting distance to Hertfordshire to ensure sustainable, long-term commitment.
