Additional Needs Learning Mentor - Gloucester

Full-Time/Part-Time | Term-Time | Long-Term & Permanent Roles Available
Immediate Starts | Support Students with SEN, SEMH & Complex Needs

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning? We are recruiting Additional Needs Learning Mentors to work across inclusive, supportive schools in the Gloucester area. You will be supporting secondary-aged students and young people with SEN, SEMH, Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties and behavioural challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to make a meaningful difference by supporting students both emotionally and academically, helping them build confidence, resilience and positive coping strategies.

If you have experience in youth work, mentoring, behaviour support, care work, sports coaching, classroom support, or supporting vulnerable individuals, this role is a fantastic way to transfer your skills into a rewarding career in education.


Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small-group learning and behaviour support
* Help students with anxiety, low mood, confidence and emotional regulation
* Support pupils to stay engaged in lessons and re-connect with learning
* Use calm, consistent behaviour strategies to promote positive choices
* Assist teachers in managing behaviour plans, routines and personalised support strategies
* Help students develop communication skills, independence and positive relationships
* Create a safe, nurturing and structured environment for students who need consistency
* Act as a reliable role model, promoting resilience, wellbeing and respect


Essential Skills & Qualities

* Passion for supporting young people with additional needs
* Calm, confident and patient when managing challenging behaviours
* Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
* Resilient, nurturing, and able to maintain consistent boundaries
* A proactive and adaptable mindset in fast‑paced school settings
* Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)


Desirable (Not Essential)

* Previous experience in SEN, youth support, behaviour mentoring or care work
* Understanding of Autism, SEMH, ADHD or trauma‑informed approaches
* Experience supporting disengaged or vulnerable students
* Training in Team Teach, First Aid, Safeguarding or mental health support
* Ability to plan or lead structured activities or wellbeing sessions
* Driving licence and access to a car (helpful but not required)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
