Job overview


We are seeking a Catering Manager to oversee our school canteen operations. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in catering management and hold a Certificate qualification. As the Catering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of our canteen services, maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene, managing inventory, and supervising staff.

What does this job do?

* To organise and supervise the school kitchen in accordance with and to the standard required by statutory regulations.
* To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food.
* To ensure that efficient and economic use is made of all resources.
* To provide and maintain a high standard of catering in the school.
* To ensure catering areas of the school are prepared for relevant use, as directed.

Skills and Qualifications:

* City & Guilds 706/2 or S/NVQ Level 3 in Food Preparation and cooking
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
* Health & Safety Awareness
* Experience of working in the catering industry
* Experience of producing freshly prepared food
* Ability to work within budgeting restrictions
* Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
* Ability to work effectively under pressure

The Heights is a Key Stage 2 - Key Stage 4 Alternative Provision School for young people, many of whom have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.

We are very proud of the provision we offer and work in close partnership with local schools, the local authority, external agencies and parents/carers to deliver highly personalised learning programmes.

At Key Stage 2 & 3, the focus is on supporting young people to return to a mainstream school. At Key Stage 4, we focus on providing the opportunity for students to gain qualifications on par with mainstream schools and with the skills needed to ensure a successful transition to college, training or employment.

Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and receive the extra support they require. Students are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs.

In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses and academic programmes that support pupils' personal and social development. You can view our full curriculum on this website.

Many of the young people who attend The Heights, arrive here at a difficult period in their lives. We aim to ensure that we give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives.
