About The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Software Engineer specializing in Backend Development to join our dynamic team within the FinTech business unit. This role is based in London and offers an initial 6-month contract with the possibility of extension, operating inside IR35 regulations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and maintaining cutting-edge regulatory technology solutions that ensure compliance and mitigate risks for our clients. You will work on a mission-critical platform that leverages advanced technology for sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting. The role demands a focus on building highly scalable, distributed microservices that support business objectives while enhancing the user experience for both internal stakeholders and partners. The position offers a flexible work arrangement, with a maximum of two days in the office per week, and a competitive pay rate of £63 to £84 per hour.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess over five years of experience in software development, with a strong emphasis on server-side programming. Proficiency in at least two server-side languages is essential, with Java being a mandatory requirement. Candidates should have demonstrable experience designing and implementing microservices architecture and working with scalable, distributed systems. A solid understanding of data technologies such as MySQL, Hadoop, or Cassandra is necessary, along with experience in batch processing, data pipelines, and ensuring data integrity. Familiarity with AWS services like RDS, Step Functions, EC2, and Kinesis will be advantageous. The candidate should also have a good grasp of testing paradigms including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing. Prior exposure to the FinTech sector, financial services, banking, or payment systems is highly desirable. Additionally, knowledge of security best practices related to authentication and authorization, as well as experience working with globally distributed teams, will be considered a plus.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices that underpin our compliance and regulatory platforms.
* Create and enhance tools and systems for sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, and regulatory reporting to ensure adherence to legal standards.
* Optimize backend processes to improve performance, reliability, and data integrity across the platform.
* Develop analytics, reporting, and tooling to support internal compliance teams and stakeholders.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, compliance officers, and security specialists to understand regulatory requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
* Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents promptly, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system stability and security.
* Mentor junior engineers, contribute to hiring efforts, and foster a collaborative team environment focused on innovation and quality.
