Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce that the club is now recruiting for aFirst Team Grounds Manager, offering an exciting opportunity to play a vital role behind the scenes at the Attis Arena.
The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the maintenance and development of the club’s first team playing surfaces, ensuring pitches are prepared to the highest possible standard all year round. Working closely with first team staff, the role will be central to supporting player performance through the delivery of elite-level playing conditions.
We are looking for an individual with a proven background in producing high-quality sports pitches, whether in a professional or educational setting. The ability to set, maintain and continually raise standards across the site is essential, as is the confidence to lead, organise and motivate additional or part-time staff when required.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include overseeing all routine maintenance practices, maintaining digital records, and managing, or quickly learning, the operation of the club’s irrigation systems. Strong communication skills are key, enabling effective working relationships with coaching staff and colleagues across the club. The role will also involve general landscape and gardens management, liaising with contractors, and carrying out basic machinery upkeep.
Looking ahead, the position offers scope for development, with the successful candidate expected to contribute towards the future management and control of departmental budgets.
Applicants should ideally have a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience within the industry, alongside relevant qualifications such as an NVQ or Diploma in Turfgrass or Horticulture. Additional certifications, including spraying licences and machinery operation qualifications, would be advantageous.
