OCU Digital (part of the wider OCU Group) are currently looking for a Junior Developer to join their team in Preston. As a Junior Developer at OCU Digital you'll work day-to-day on developing OCU’s in-house Workforce Management Platform (OCU One), and associated technology. This is a full-stack role working on both our web application (Ruby on Rails) and mobile application (Flutter). Working within a team, you will produce innovative user experiences for our latest platform using your passion for writing clean robust code. Along the way you'll be exposed to all aspects of code development from good design all the way through testing and release. Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to work on our Ruby on Rails based web application, and Flutter based Mobile application. Translate high level designs into high-quality code. Build efficient and reusable UI and core software components. Optimize application performance for maximum speed and scalability. Design and build RESTful APIs to serve application data. Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in Rails, web and mobile technologies. Write tests to be used when validating software components and in continuous integration. At OCU Digital we are striving to keep our tech stack streamlined. For our latest platform we use the following tools: Ruby on Rails Postgresql Google Kubernetes Engine Docker Google Cloud Logging and Monitoring Redis GitHub/GitHub actions Flutter Firebase Crashlytics Fastlane Skills and Experience: Experience in one or more web frameworks such as PHP, Laravel, React, nodejs or similar. A passion for writing good quality testable code. A strong interest in the user experience. Experience with creating both Web frontends and RESTful APIs. Familiarity with Git version control system. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration abilities. Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experience with automated testing frameworks.
