Role Overview
The Sales Executive will be responsible for driving revenue across the Specify Digital Platform and the Specify Quarterly Handbook. This role focuses on selling annual digital listings, tiered memberships, and handbook placements to manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers within the construction and built environment sector.
This is a consultative sales role. You are not selling “ad space” — you are selling visibility at specification stage, credibility, and long-term market positioning.
Key Responsibilities
* Sell Specify Digital memberships (Digital, Basic, Pro, Premium, Elite)
* Sell Handbook placements, including:
o Hero features
o Technical profiles
o Supporting editorial placements
* Upsell digital members into print and vice versa
* Manage a personal sales pipeline from lead → close → renewal
* Hit agreed monthly and quarterly revenue targets
Client Engagement
* Identify and approach suitable companies across:
* Construction products
* Building systems
* Sustainability-led suppliers
* Specialist contractors and services
* Conduct discovery calls to understand:
* Target market
* Specification challenges
* Product positioning
* Clearly explain how Specify supports:
* Specifiers
* Architects
* Engineers
* Contractors
Platform & Handbook Knowledge
* Confidently explain:
* How the digital platform works (map-based search, categories, visibility)
* How the Handbook is structured (theme-led, technical, reference-driven)
* The difference between each membership tier
* Position Specify as a long-term industry resource, not a one-off advert
CRM & Admin
* Keep CRM updated with:
* Leads
* Notes
* Follow-ups
* Deal stages
* Coordinate with internal team on:
* Onboarding new members
* Artwork and content deadlines
* Handbook production schedules
Ideal Candidate Profile
Essential
* Proven experience in B2B sales (media, construction, SaaS, or professional services preferred)
* Confident phone and video-call communicator
* Comfortable with consultative, value-led selling
* Organised and self-motivated
* Able to manage multiple deals at different stages
Desirable
* Experience selling into construction, architecture, or engineering sectors
* Understanding of specification, tendering, or product selection processes
* CRM experience (HubSpot, Pipedrive, Monday, or similar)
* Experience selling recurring or annual contracts
