The role
As a Lifting Operative, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Successful candidates will operate in a safety-critical role, ensuring strict adherence to procedures and performing to the highest standards in a regulated environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll conduct slinging activities, produce Basic Lift and Fleeting Plans, follow Lift Plan instructions, establish safe exclusion zones, and inspect lifting equipment, quarantining non-conforming items.
1. Perform slinging activities on Fleet Time & Upkeep projects in Warships & Submarine units.
2. Assist in fleeting operations for submarines and warships.
3. Develop and follow Basic Lift and Fleeting Plans.
4. Establish and maintain safe exclusion zones around lifting operations.
5. Inspect lifting equipment, ensuring compliance and quarantining non-conforming items.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).
Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:
Gross salary: £31,
Gross OTE for core Dayshift/Backshift Pattern: £44,
Essential experience of the Lifting Operative
6. Previous experience working in a marine environment.
7. Knowledge of submarines and warships layouts
8. Willingness to undertake development training as identified in a competency framework.
9. Ability to read and understand a Functional Procedures
Qualifications for the Lifting Operative
10. NVQ Level 2 in Marine Engineering (Movement of Loads).
11. NPORS Slinger/Signaller certification.
12. CPCS Blue / A40 qualification.
13. Opito Slinger/Signaller accreditation.
14. Previous experience working in an afloat environment.
