Opportunity Overview
The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students based in the UK for the duration of the role. We are recruiting three students to form a game development team to design, prototype, and develop a VR Escape Room. The team will consist of one developer, one designer, and one artist. When applying indicate which of these three roles you are interested in undertaking.
Development Tasks
* Developer: Responsible for implementing the game including programming and scripting; specifying, testing, and evaluating systems; working with others to produce robust, performant code.
* Designer: Responsible for prototyping game concepts, ideas and mechanics, and communicating them through design specifications. Opportunity to work on environment and/or level design.
* Artist: Responsible for producing or sourcing suitable assets such as 3D modelling. May also work on visual effects and cinematics depending on the direction of the game.
Skills Development
Through this role you will develop transferable skills in communication, problem solving and teamwork. You will continue to build on specialist technical skills and learn more about the tools and technologies involved in game production.
Tools
Tools may include Unity, Unreal Engine, Maya, Blender, GitHub, Jira, and other related technologies.
Dates and Working Hours
Dates: 8 June 2026 – 10 July 2026. Hours of Work: 20 hours per week, flexible around your availability. You must be available for an initial briefing meeting at 10am on Monday 8th June 2026 on campus.
Location
Primarily on campus.
Eligibility and Requirements
Only open to current Manchester Met Students who meet the following requirements.
Essential
* A portfolio of work that demonstrates an existing body of work as a developer, designer, or artist.
* Experience using game engines to produce game prototypes (Unity, Unreal Engine, or both).
* Experience utilising team‑working tools and approaches such as Agile project management, Jira, Trello, etc.
* Experience with tools and technologies suitable for your intended role (e.g., Visual Studio, Rider, Maya, Blender).
* Experience with a version control solution (e.g., GitHub).
Desirable
* Experience working with virtual reality.
* Experience with playtesting.
