About the Role

At Balfour Beatty, we’re shaping the UK’s energy future. As part of the Net Zero Teesside programme, we’re delivering critical infrastructure that will support the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy. We’re now looking for a Substation Site Manager to join us at Tod Point, Redcar, playing a key role in the safe and successful delivery of this high‑profile project.


Responsibilities

* Lead and manage site activities, teams, and subcontractors
* Deliver works in line with programme, budget, quality, and compliance
* Plan works, allocate resources, and monitor progress on site
* Maintain accurate site records, reports, and documentation
* Implement technical drawings and specifications into delivery
* Ensure effective cost control and resource management
* Identify and manage risks, issues, and changes
* Champion Zero Harm, ensuring safe systems of work and full HSE compliance
* Produce and review RAMS, lead safety tours, and support incident investigations
* Ensure workforce competency, welfare, and behavioural safety standards
* Lead, motivate, and develop teams, setting clear expectations and standards
* Build strong relationships across project teams, supply chain, and stakeholders
* Drive performance, productivity, and continuous improvement


Qualifications

* Proven experience delivering substation, HV, or major infrastructure projects in a site leadership role
* Strong track record of running a safe, compliant site and driving a Zero Harm culture
* Confident managing subcontractors, direct teams, and multiple work fronts simultaneously
* Solid understanding of programme delivery, sequencing, and short‑term planning
* Commercial awareness – able to manage costs, resources, and change on site
* Comfortable interpreting technical drawings and specifications and turning them into delivery
* Decisive, resilient, and able to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
* Clear and credible communicator – able to influence at all levels on site and with stakeholders
* Proactive mindset with a solutions‑led approach to problem solving
* CSCS / SSSTS
