The Role
The Head of Estates and Countryside Management is a key position responsible for leading and developing BBNPA as a centre of excellence in estate land management. The role involves overseeing capital works programmes and landscape management of Y Bannau for nature and recreation. Responsibilities include planning and delivering projects, managing site warden services, and ensuring efficient service delivery to support sustainable visitor management, accessible rights of way, community engagement, nature recovery, and land conservation.
The post will advise the National Park Authority on sustainable land and asset management, visitor safety, and accessibility. The successful candidate will develop and implement work programmes, foster partnerships, and support the delivery of the management plan through:
* Providing leadership, coordinating activities, and managing procurement, design, and project execution.
* Developing partnerships and supporting funding bids and grants.
* Engaging locally through wardens and supporting networks for spatial and collaborative delivery.
* Guiding policy development and managing land asset systems and databases.
* Overseeing capital works, site safety, procurement, contracts, and permits.
* Collaborating with the rural surveyor and commercial management team to develop site management plans promoting nature, income, inclusive access, and educational opportunities.
Skills and Qualifications
* Extensive experience in access, rights of way, park management, capital projects, and land conservation.
* Understanding of land use sectors like forestry, agriculture, recreation, and their role in nature recovery.
* Knowledge of social, environmental, and climate change issues.
* Degree-level education or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
* Membership of professional bodies or evidence of CPD.
* Significant experience in countryside management, legislation, safety, and visitor safety.
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality projects and services.
* Experience in team building and management.
* Management experience in complex, dynamic environments.
* Analytical, strategic thinking, and linking different areas of work.
* Strong partnership-building, negotiation skills, and ability to work across sectors and backgrounds.
