Job Title: HR Officer
Location: Mont Rose House, Mont Rose College of Management & Sciences, 412 – 416, Eastern Avenue, Gants Hill London, IG2 6NQ – Office-based
Working Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum (depending on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, experienced, and highly organised HR Officer to join our team and lead the Human Resources function at Mont Rose College. This is a vital role that supports both managers and staff across the college, delivering a comprehensive and professional HR service. You'll work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure our people practices are effective, compliant, and supportive of a positive working culture.
This is a diverse, fast-paced position ideal for someone who enjoys being the go-to person for all things HR and is confident in managing a wide range of responsibilities independently.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as the first point of contact for all HR queries from staff and management.
* Provide accurate advice on employment law, college policies, and best HR practices.
* Manage the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, onboarding, contractual changes, and leavers.
* Manage the recruitment and new starter process in full and ensure we have all the correct new starter paperwork before an employee joins us.
* Review and update policies as and when required and ensure they are kept up to date and in line with contractual and statutory requirements.
* Draft and maintain HR documents including job descriptions, offer letters, contracts, and policy updates.
* Oversee and maintain the BreatheHR (HRIS) system, ensuring employee records are accurate and up to date.
* Handle employee relations matters including disciplinary and grievance cases, from investigation to outcome reports.
* Monitor staff sickness and absence, using tools like the Bradford Factor to support managers with absence management.
* Lead on wellbeing initiatives, fostering a supportive and healthy workplace culture.
* Coordinate and deliver manager training sessions on HR procedures, policies, and people management.
* Work with the Finance team to ensure accurate timesheet reporting and support basic payroll tasks.
* Manage holiday requests, ensuring fair and accurate allocation across departments.
* Produce and analyse HR reports such as absence trends, staff turnover, and workforce data.
* Prepare and submit HESA reporting and other statutory data as required.
* Maintain and review internal control systems, supporting the Vice Principal with annual assessments and audits.
* Continuously identify opportunities for HR process improvements and departmental development.
* Run various training sessions for all employees.
* Act as a trusted liaison between staff and senior leadership, promoting fairness, compliance, and effective communication.
* Support ad-hoc HR projects and undertake additional relevant tasks as needed.
About You
* Proven 2 years + HR experience in a generalist role (education sector experience is a plus)
* CIPD Level 5 or above.
* Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices
* Exceptional organisational and time management skills
* Confident communicator with strong interpersonal and mediation skills
* Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information
* Able to work independently and take initiative
* Proficient in using HR systems (experience with BreatheHR is advantageous)
