Join a critical public sector transformation project focused on decommissioning legacy mainframe systems.
Urgently seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong ICL VME & COBOL skills to support the migration of essential services (including payroll) off mainframe before an end-of-year deadline.
Key Responsibilities:
* Reverse-engineer and interpret ICL VME mainframe applications written in COBOL
* Support the migration of codebases into Windows DLL equivalents
* Work with existing scripts to ensure functionality is retained and transitioned effectively
* Provide technical expertise in legacy systems decommissioning
* Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and validate transitions in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment
* Assist in GNU-based IBM tooling if experienced
Skills & Experience Required:
* Strong hands-on experience with ICL VME mainframe systems
* Strong expertise in COBOL, analysing and reworking legacy business logic
* Understanding of mainframe-to-modern transitions
Desirable:
* Experience with GNU on IBM environments
* Public sector experience
