The role

This is a technical sales role within our commercial team, suited to candidates who have experience selling technical or engineering-led products and want to operate in a more consultative, system-focused environment.

You will work directly with engineers, operational teams and decision-makers across the maritime sector. Success in this role requires structured thinking, technical curiosity, and the ability to represent complex systems accurately.

If successful, there is a clear pathway into owning the Marine Engineering sector within RS Aqua and becoming the commercial lead for a defined customer set and associated product lines.

We are not looking for aggressive selling. We are looking for someone who can understand systems, ask good questions, work through ambiguity, and build long-term trust with customers.

Marine & Maritime Focus

Your customers will typically include:

· Marine and coastal engineering consultancies

· Contractors and offshore service providers

· Survey and hydrographic companies

· Ports and harbour authorities

· Offshore energy and infrastructure organisations

· Environmental monitoring providers

· Government bodies and agencies

The technology focus is practical and deployment-led, including:

· Metocean and oceanographic sensors

· Wave and tide measurement systems

· Current profilers

· Marine autonomous and robotic systems

· Data loggers and ruggedised field instrumentation

What you'll be doing

In your first year, you will spend most of your time:

· Leading or shaping technically complex quotations, proposals and tender responses

· Supporting and increasingly leading customer meetings, demonstrations, trade shows and site visits (UK, occasional international)

· Working with suppliers, engineers and operations to clarify specifications, integration constraints, lead times and delivery requirements

· Maintaining accurate, structured CRM records and opportunity tracking

· Producing clear technical commercial content such as application notes and capability summaries

Over time, you will take increasing ownership of customer relationships and live opportunities, with the expectation that you become a trusted commercial lead for a defined segment of the Marine Engineering market.

What success looks like in year one

· You can explain our core products clearly and accurately, including their limitations

· You communicate with customers and colleagues in a calm, precise and professional manner

· You escalate uncertainty early rather than guessing

· You improve proposal quality and reduce preventable technical or commercial errors

· You build credibility through understanding and delivery, not confidence alone

This role is a good fit if you:

· Have experience selling technical, engineering-led or system-based products

· Can demonstrate the ability to understand and explain technical systems clearly

· Can show evidence that you've taken responsibility and delivered results in real-world environments

· Are comfortable engaging with engineers, operational teams and technical stakeholders

· Care about accuracy, detail and professional reputation

Experience in maritime, offshore, marine engineering or industrial technical sectors is advantageous but not essential.

This role is NOT for you if you:

· Are seeking a commission-first, high-volume sales position

· Prefer scripted selling over understanding systems and applications

· Dislike detail-oriented work or structured follow-through

· Expect to be fully effective from day one without a learning curve

· Are looking for a purely research-focused role

: £30–40k depending on capability and progression potential
