Roots To Excellence Learning Mentor (Saturdays) Rooted in Culture. Driven by Learning. Built for Leadership. Roots To Excellence is a new, Black Caribbean-focused Saturday programme for children and young people aged 8 to 16 with a mission: to empower children and young people of Caribbean heritage to excel academically, embrace their identity, build strong character, and achieve their highest aspirations. Through a combination of academic tutoring, mentoring, and leadership development, r2e will work with children, parents, and schools to:
* Foster confidence and a positive mindset
* Raise academic achievement
* Cultivate leadership skills
* Strengthen cultural identity and resilience
* Build community and self-reliance
* Create opportunities at key educational transition point
We will also work closely with parents and schools to remove barriers, support learning at home, and celebrate diversity - ensuring consistent, holistic support for each young person. We are looking for Primary and Secondary Learning Mentors who will be part of our r2e Saturday team. Learning Mentors will play a key pastoral and leadership role in the Saturday Programme ensuring that young people receive the support they need to thrive both academically and personally. Mentors will be the main pastoral support for students on Saturdays, with a particular focus on those who are highly vulnerable or have higher-level needs. The Mentors will also help develop and lead the Sixth Form mentors, ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality support and guidance for the younger members. Additionally, they will take a leading role in the leadership aspect of the programme, delivering sessions that focus on leadership, culture, and personal development.
Responsibilities
* Pastoral Support & Mentoring
* Act as the main pastoral lead during Saturday School sessions, providing support and guidance to students.
* Personally mentor highly vulnerable students and those with significant needs, ensuring they receive tailored support.
* Work with students to help build their confidence, self-esteem, and resilience.
* Provide emotional and wellbeing support, acting as a trusted adult that students can turn to.
* Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate appropriately, following Roots to Excellence\'s safeguarding procedures.
