DescriptionEmployerLocation

Dear Applicant,

Learning Mentor

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, flexible and resilient Learning Mentor to join our Learning Support Department. The successful applicant will be required to work across all subjects and year groups, supporting students in a range of settings and taking responsibility for small group interventions. You will work closely with the Age Phase Leads and the SENCO.

The post is available from September on a permanent basis for 32.25 hours per week, for 39 weeks term-time. The core hours of work are from Monday - 8.15am to 3.45pm, Tuesday - Friday 8.45am to 3.45pm. The additional hour per week needs to be flexible to allow support at one extracurricular club which will be confirmed based on need.

The successful candidate will spend the majority of the working day supporting students where the need is greatest, therefore every day will be different with a flexible timetable. This is not a Learning Support Assistant Role. This is a role with more autonomy as the Learning Mentor will have to draw on their knowledge of SEND needs and their key students in order to plan a dynamic timetable and dictate their own priorities.

Flexibility, adaptability, a high level of initiative, and the ability to feel confident in the presence of and communicating with young people is essential. You will work closely with the SEND team to provide flexible support for our students. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to stay positive are essential.

St John the Baptist School (SJB) is a highly successful school where you can flourish and develop your career. It is a school where teachers can teach effectively in classrooms with students that have a real thirst to learn. Furthermore, it is a place where you will be valued, and your wellbeing is considered as being of great importance. We believe the most effective learning takes place when staff feel happy, supported and appreciated, and we understand the vital role that support staff play in ensuring this. If you would like to know more about the role, please contact Lisa Kenny who is the Assistant Head and SENCO.
