Packaging Developer
Location: Leeds, UK
Job Overview
The Packaging Developer is a key role within the Deodorant Category at Unilever, supporting innovation and excellence in packaging for flagship brands including Rexona, Axe, and Dove.
Responsibilities
1. Supports or leads the packaging workstreams within the development framework.
2. Supports or leads risk management activities (e.g., FMEA, Risk Assessments).
3. Validates robust functional specifications for components and systems.
4. Ensures appropriate test plans are executed to ensure RFT delivery.
5. Contributes to innovation networks and delivers packaging related network activities.
6. Analyzes test results using statistical tools to identify potential production issues, prepares reports for stakeholder feedback and makes recommendations to drive decision‑making.
7. Manages lab technicians, including SOW job requests when conducting technical testing activities through to completion (pilot packaging equipment, factory line trials and Design of Experiments).
8. Works with strategic partners including design agencies, consultants, injection moulding/assembly suppliers globally to coordinate successful project delivery.
9. Contributes to the development of future packaging capability initiatives by feeding into best practice solutions and supporting the testing capability to validate “design rules” for implementation into future innovation projects.
10. Supports training and builds knowledge and expertise across Personal Care.
11. Participates in contributing towards the Packaging and Aerosol teams strategy activities.
Experience & Qualifications
* Project Management and organisational experience.
* Technical education in engineering, science or design, OR relevant prior technical experience.
* Experience of manufacturing technology preferred.
* Proficient in digital tools (e.g., analytical) to produce evidence to support decision‑making.
* Ability to read technical engineering drawings and understand tolerances.
* Experience with measurement testing equipment and techniques.

Additional Information
Business travel required, including some overseas travel. Occasional out of hours work may be required. Office based with opportunities for agile working.
