Job Vacancy: Learning Mentor

Location: Bromley

The Role

As a Learning Mentor, you will play an integral part in helping to remove barriers to learning and support students with autism to flourish academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with the teaching team to provide one-to-one and small group support, ensuring that every student receives the tailored help they need to succeed.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students who need your support the most. You will help empower them to build independence, develop social skills, and navigate their educational journey with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

Student-Focused Work:

Provide individual and small group support to students under the direction of the team leader.

Serve as a key worker for up to six named pupils, taking responsibility for their learning and development.

Support students across various settings to help them participate fully in activities.

Assist with the development and monitoring of Individual Education Programmes (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.

Encourage and promote self-esteem, independence, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Help students build social skills, confidence, and emotional resilience.

Wider School Engagement:

Participate in staff and team meetings, contributing ideas and insights for school improvement.

Support the delivery of extracurricular activities, such as breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, and lunchtime activities.

Collaborate with other professionals and parents to ensure a holistic approach to each student's development.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 3 GCSEs (A*-C), or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.

A relevant qualification at NVQ Level 2 or above, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience in a support or caring role (paid or voluntary).

Basic understanding of autism and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting individuals with autism.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to engage effectively with a diverse group of people.

Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Ability to form positive relationships and work collaboratively within a team.

High level of professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Self-motivated, with the ability to demonstrate initiative.

Resilient and adaptable in challenging situations.
