Job Summary
The Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the quality assurance and control processes within a fabrication manufacturing environment. This role ensures that all fabricated products meet customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements. The Quality Manager will lead a team of quality professionals, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams to uphold the highest standards of product quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
* Quality System Management: Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001, ASME, or other relevant standards.
* Quality Assurance: Oversee inspection and testing processes to ensure products meet design specifications, tolerances, and material requirements for fabricated components (e.g., welding, machining, assembly).
* Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to reduce defects, enhance product quality, and increase operational efficiency using tools like Lean, Six Sigma, or Root Cause Analysis.
* Non-Conformance Management: Lead investigations into non-conforming products, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
* Customer Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality concerns, ensuring timely resolution and maintaining strong customer relationships.
* Supplier Quality: Collaborate with the supply chain team to evaluate and monitor supplier performance, ensuring incoming materials meet quality standards.
* Team Leadership: Manage, train, and develop a team of quality inspectors, technicians, and engineers, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
* Audits and Compliance: Plan and conduct internal and external audits to ensure compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory bodies.
* Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate quality records, prepare reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), and present findings to senior management.
* Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure quality processes align with workplace safety standards and environmental regulations.
* Demonstrate strong knowledge of quality standards including ISO 9001, BS EN 3834, BS EN 15085, and BS EN 1090.
Qualifications and Skills
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Management, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., CQE, CQM, Six Sigma Black Belt) are a plus.
* Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in quality management within a fabrication or manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of fabrication processes (e.g., welding, machining, metal forming), inspection techniques, and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ASME, AWS).
* Analytical Skills: Proficiency in root cause analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and quality tools such as FMEA, 8D, or Pareto analysis.
* Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, manage conflict, and drive results in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
* Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
* Software Proficiency: Familiarity with QMS software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with CAD or CMM software is a plus.
* Certifications: Knowledge of welding inspection (e.g., CWI) or non-destructive testing (NDT) methods is highly desirable.
