Job Summary
Driftwood House is looking for a dedicated and passionate Cook to join its expanding team in all our Homes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing high-quality meals in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety practices and the ability to work collaboratively with kitchen staff to deliver exceptional dining experiences.
Duties
· To provide for the dietary needs of all the residents throughout the day
· To offer choices and acknowledge residents' rights – responsibility for breakfast, lunch and tea menus for the Home over a seven-day period.
· To plan food requirements and menus for the Home, offering a variety of options for varying tastes.
· To prepare and cook food in accordance to the menu, resident's wishes and the Home's requirements, whilst ensuring a balanced diet and catering for special diets.
· To ensure that adequate food stocks are maintained, that the order has been sent, will be delivered in time and to inform the Home Manager is stock levels are low.
· Avoid wastage by following three simple rules:
First in first out
Stock rotation
Purchase less products but order more frequently
· Ensure that all food is used in date order, stored correctly according to manufacturer's instructions and according to EEC regulations.
· Maintain optimum and efficient standards of storage in the fridge, freezer and storerooms.
· Maintain a hygienic and germ- free environment in the kitchen at all times.
· Wear your hair tied back whilst working in the kitchen.
· Use blue coloured dressings for covering wounds.
· To maintain an ongoing supply of biscuits and home-made cakes as required.
· Ensure the kitchen, all its appliances, including crockery and cutlery are cleaned and stored correctly.
· Ensure the prompt disposal of waste food and other produce.
· Maintain all kitchen records including inputting the temperatures of all fridges and freezers onto CareDocs.
Skills
* Proven experience in a Care home setting or similar environment is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of meal preparation techniques and food safety regulations.
* Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy kitchen setting.
* A passion for cooking and creativity in developing new recipes and presentations.
* Good communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with team members.
