Overview
Create an environment where the patients are central to all decision making and the delivery of high quality compassionate care is every body's prime objective. The post holder will act as a senior midwifery coordinator working shift by shift over a 24‑hour period Monday to Sunday.
Responsibilities
* Ensure safe staffing and leadership across the site.
* Coordinate the clinical, managerial and educational requirements of a defined clinical area on a shift basis.
* Act as an expert resource to the MDT team and the wider multi‑disciplinary team, supporting the delivery of high quality patient‑focused care.
* Inspire, motivate and empower others through effective clinical leadership and role modelling.
* Fully participate in clinical and professional leadership within the organisation, working with the Intrapartum unit Manager to set and monitor professional standards.
* Liaise, guide and advise the multi‑disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum maternity care.
* Ensure the environment and ward processes are responsive to the needs of women and their carers, recognising the importance of privacy, dignity and diversity.
* Maintain high levels of visibility and proactive communication with women, families and carers.
* Model professional behaviour, coach team members, challenge competencies and create a culture of appraisals and personal and professional development.
* Deploy staff in line with the trust roster policy, ensuring safe and appropriate midwifery care, effective management of planned absences and proactive management of staffing shortfalls.
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
* Senior midwifery experience with proven clinical leadership and supervisory skills.
* Excellent communication, organisational and coaching abilities.
* Ability to work flexibly across a 24‑hour shift pattern and to manage staffing rosters.
