Learning Mentor

* Job Type: Full-time
* Location: Horsham
* Salary: Grade 5: Scale Point 7-8

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to support and guide children and young people by removing barriers to learning. This role aims to promote positive emotional wellbeing, effective participation, enhance individual learning, raise aspirations, and achieve full potential. The Learning Mentor will also work to reduce truancy and exclusions, providing a complementary service that enhances existing provisions, supports learning, participation, and encourages social inclusion.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

* Facilitate children and young people’s learning and emotional development through mentoring, identifying learning and development needs, planning, and reviewing the effectiveness of mentoring strategies.
* Identify barriers to learning for individual children and young people, providing them with strategies to overcome these barriers.
* Support children and young people’s successful transfer and transition in learning and development contexts.
* Assist in mental health and emotional wellbeing support.
* Identify early signs of disengagement and contribute to interventions to encourage re-engagement.
* Contribute to the protection of children and young people from harm.
* Maintain accurate records of planned and proposed strategies/interventions.
* Facilitate access to specialist support services for children and young people with barriers to learning.
* Attend network meetings with other posts in different schools to share good practice and enhance mentoring provision.
* Operate within agreed legal, ethical, and professional boundaries.
* Liaise closely with school staff to ensure understanding and support for implemented strategies.
* Attend training and professional development sessions.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

* Experience in mentoring or a similar role within an educational setting.
* Strong understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people in educational environments.
* Ability to develop and implement effective mentoring strategies.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with children, young people, and adults.
* Commitment to continuous professional development.
* Knowledge of legal and ethical guidelines in working with children and young people.
