About the role
This role is pivotal for our next phase of digital transformation in Reading. It will be central to our ambitions for digital innovation and enhancing customer and employee experiences. The successful candidate will lead digital and web strategies within the council and across borough communities.
You will collaborate with existing partners and the local tech industry to foster a vibrant digital culture in Reading.
* Develop and maintain the council's main website using modern JavaScript frameworks (Nuxt with WordPress CMS), including building new components and managing upgrades.
* Support data integrations via Azure Logic Apps and Azure Functions.
* Work with AWS services like Lambda (Python), Lex, and Connect to support voice automation and reporting, as well as other stacks involving Voice Automation and chatbots.
* Act as a technical lead for new digital solutions, advising on infrastructure, security, and strategic alignment.
* Support the council's transition to Salesforce CRM, including integrating customer contact forms and advising on Apex development.
* Lead API development and management (experience with Flask and Azure API Management is beneficial).
* Provide technical support for existing digital services, including incident response and resolution.
* Collaborate across teams to advise on technical solutions and maintain strong relationships.
We seek someone with strong technical expertise and a proactive, collaborative approach. Experience in all listed areas is not required, but confidence in learning and adapting is essential.
* Experience developing modern web applications using JavaScript, Vue, and Nuxt.
* Comfort working with cloud platforms, especially Azure and AWS.
* Experience with APIs, automation, and data integration.
* Ability to lead technical projects and communicate effectively with diverse colleagues.
* Willingness to learn Salesforce environments and Apex.
* Team player, adaptable, curious, and committed to high-quality digital services.
