For 30 years we've been independently developing and publishing incredible video games at our multiple studios founded by Jason & Chris Kingsley. Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled back‑end Senior Online Developer to join our tech team and help build and support internal and external web APIs for our game engine team. The successful candidate will join a small team and apply specialist JavaScript knowledge throughout the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and system design to implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. You will work on building internal tools as well as public‑facing APIs.
This is primarily a back‑end role. We are looking for a talented senior or lead with experience building performant and distributed backend APIs and efficiently utilising 3rd party services. The role requires comfort communicating with other teams to fix bugs and resolve issues. It is an excellent opportunity to build exciting, business‑critical systems from the ground up.
This opportunity can be based out of either of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world‑class team. Key Outcomes
* Produce performant and well documented code.
* Successfully develop and deploy new tools to support our game teams.
* Respond to bugs and issues as they arise and provide speedy resolution.
Responsibilities
* Design, build and deploy web applications to support our in‑house engine team.
* Maintain and improve existing tools.
* Develop integrations with third‑party APIs.
* Support our application deployments.
* Communicate with other teams.
Requirements
* Strong experience with Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript.
* Knowledge of front‑end frameworks such as Vue and React.
* Strong experience with databases such as MySQL and NoSQL databases.
* Familiarity with AWS or equivalent cloud environments.
* Strong experience with software development tools and version control systems (Git/Perforce desirable).
* Demonstrated capacity to quickly learn new technologies.
* Comfortable modifying/maintaining applications written in other languages such as PHP is desirable.
* Experience writing serverless functions (AWS Lambda/Azure Functions) is a bonus.
