Labourer – Larne
1. 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
2. £13.26 per hour
3. 3 months initially
4. Fulfil the legal Health and Safety duties placed on employees by:
5. taking reasonable care of your own health & safety and that of others who may be affected by what you do or do not do;
6. Ensuring that you use work items provided correctly and in accordance with the training and instruction received, including personal protective equipment (PPE);
7. Ensuring that you do not interfere with or misuse anything provided for health, safety, or welfare purposes. Comply with all policies and procedures. Maintain high standards of personal accountability. Perform any other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training. Maintain the condition of parks, playing fields and other open spaces including all labour associated with grounds maintenance operations.
8. Operate a wide range of powered hand tools and pedestrian powered machinery including grass cutting, hedge cutting, pruning works and disposal of all clippings at designated locations.
9. Ensure effective communication with other members of the team/line management.
10. Undergo periodic training and development as and when required.
11. Maintain the orderly condition of all open spaces, (sweeping, removal of rubbish, litter, dog fouling and emptying of all litter bins).
12. Maintain all tools and machinery in a satisfactory condition, (daily maintenance checks on lawn mowers/strimmer’s, cleaning and correct storage of all types of equipment and machinery used).
13. Carry out daily routine duties involving cleaning of cemetery buildings and public toilets and to open and close cemeteries gates if and when required.
14. Undertake daily maintenance and upkeep of all graves plots involving removal of dead flowers, topping up graves, soil levelling, reseeding, removal of weeds and inspection of grave surrounds and headstones for damage.
15. Carry out a range of horticultural work involving grass cutting, hedge cutting, pruning, weeding, maintenance of any flower and shrub beds and disposal of all waste/plant material at designated site locations.
16. Operate/drive a range of motorised vehicles including vans and dumpers in the day to day maintenance operations of Council cemeteries.
Criteria (Essential):
Criterion 1 Applicants must posses a minimum of two years’ experience in carrying out general grounds maintenance work Criterion 2 Applicants must posses a current unendorsed Driving Licence Criterion 3 A working knowledge of Health and Safety at work (NI) Order
