Role Overview
This is a maternity relief role lasting 12–13 months. The successful candidate will report to the Head of HR and manage the HR administrator. The role covers 8 Bradford-based sites and requires travel across all sites to provide first-line HR support. It is a full-time position working Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the first point of contact for HR queries across the organisation, providing high‑quality, consistent and comprehensive advice on policies, procedures and terms and conditions for all staff groups.
* Manage the HR administrator(s) and oversee line‑management, including absence management, holiday co‑ordination and wellbeing.
* Support managers to prevent, monitor and resolve employment issues in line with HR policy and procedures, including disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence, bullying, harassment and performance management.
* Provide professional advice on matters relating to employment law, contract queries, performance issues, absence management and the application of all HR policies.
* Conduct and support investigations, including evaluating information, preparing investigative reports and presenting findings.
* Act as the HR Representative for formal meetings and panels under relevant policies.
* Ensure consistent application of the sickness absence management policy and attend sickness absence meetings with staff.
* Support line managers in organisational change, redeployment and other formal workforce changes.
* Maintain and develop the administrator’s skills through training and delegation of tasks.
* Oversee the payroll process by providing accurate information to the outsourced payroll provider and managing payroll queries.
* Support recruitment, selection and onboarding activities, ensuring equal opportunities legislation and internal policies are followed.
* Progress and maintain maternity and paternity systems in line with legislation, contractual entitlements and organisational policy.
* Contribute to the development of HR policies and processes, based on current legislation and best practice.
* Support the rollout of the appraisal process, including training, support and advice for line managers.
* Undertake general HR tasks, projects, staff surveys, risk assessments and mandatory training.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience working in HR in an operational or policy‑advice capacity.
* Generalist HR experience advising managers on HR issues.
* Experience of coordinating payroll data.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, intranet and database updates.
* Experience using HR systems/databases (e.g. IRIS HR, ESR).
* Strong organisational and prioritising skills.
* High‑level interpersonal skills, tact and empathy.
* Knowledge, understanding and application of equal opportunities.
* Excellent written communication skills and ability to produce clear reports and policies.
* Strong phone, email and in‑person communication skills.
* Strong judgment, resourcefulness and common sense.
* Ability to meet scheduled timelines in a fast‑paced environment.
* Active Associate CIPD membership (CIPD Level 5 or equivalent experience).
