Learning Mentor – SEN/SEMH Setting

Hours: 30 hours per week - 9am-3pm
Salary: £13.68 per hour

Are you an enthusiastic and resilient individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? Our client, a specialist education provider, is seeking learning mentors to join their trauma-informed team working with children with SEN (Special Educational Needs) and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable young people in a small, nurturing alternative education setting.
Key Responsibilities
* Support teaching staff in delivering high-quality education to children on a 2:1 or 1:1 basis
* Plan and deliver structured interventions tailored to individual student needs
* Follow guidance from senior staff to implement daily routines and educational activities
* Build positive, trusting relationships with students and families
* Maintain a safe, organised, and welcoming learning environment
* Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour using trauma-informed strategies
* Liaise with schools and external agencies as needed
* Report safeguarding or health and safety concerns immediately
* Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all policies and procedures
We are looking for individuals who:
* Have at least 1 year of experience working with children or families with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
* Are confident managing challenging behaviour and setting clear boundaries
* Understand trauma-informed practice and the emotional needs of vulnerable learners
* Are excellent team players with a positive and proactive attitude
* Prioritise safeguarding and can respond quickly to incidents
* Are committed to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality
* Build strong professional relationships with colleagues, families, and external partners
Additional Information
* Term-time only role (plus 3 days during school holidays)
* Enhanced DBS and two references required prior to placement
* Multiple positions available
* This role involves working directly with children who may present with challenging behaviour—confidence in behaviour management is essential
